Moldova: Resident of Mereni village found 100-kilogram bomb while digging aqueduct


A resident of Mereni village, Anenii Noi district, discovered a 100-kilogram aerial bomb while work was being carried out to install a water supply line. An explosive ordnance disposal team from the “Ștefan cel Mare” Motorized Infantry Brigade responded to the scene.

The bomb dated back to World War II, and the operation was classified as one of the most dangerous missions carried out by National Army explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists in September.

In total, throughout September, National Army EOD specialists participated in 23 demining missions across the country, resulting in the discovery and destruction of 31 explosive items.
