Iran brings exploding drone boats into war in attack on oil tanker


A Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker has been struck by a so-called Iranian kamikaze drone boat in the Gulf of Oman. It is reportedly the first time Iran has used the weapon in the current war after ordering the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has started using exploding drone boats to target vessels that could attempt to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The MKD VYOM, a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker, was hit by an Iranian uncrewed surface vessel (USV) earlier this week, killing one crew member. The vessel was struck as it sailed off the coast of Oman.
