Indonesia: Suspected 400-Kg Dutch bomb found in Yogyakarta


Police in Sleman, Yogyakarta, have identified a suspected 400-kilogram wartime aerial bomb, likely a remnant from World War II, prompting an evacuation and traffic closures ahead of its planned disposal on Tuesday morning.

Sleman Police Chief Edy Setianto Erning Wibowo said the device was believed to be an aircraft bomb left over from the Second World War, with an estimated blast radius of about 500 meters. “It weighs more than 400 kilograms and is likely an aircraft bomb,” Edy told reporters on Monday night. “It is thought to be a relic from the Dutch Second Aggression period (in 1948).”
