An explosion caused by an improvised explosive device on Old Haleakala Highway, which was placed in a nearby trash receptacle, struck a passing vehicle and the driver was transported for medical services, but was later released.
The FBI and Maui Police Department issued a press release Thursday prior to the explosion, warning the public of the threat of IED’s. The FBI and MPD have identified and collected several IEDs which vary in size and shape, and have reportedly rendered them safe.
