Authorities in Trinity County located a homemade pipe bomb left in a public forest Wednesday, officials announced.
A community member in the small Northern California town of Weaverville reported a “suspicious item” in the Community Forest south of downtown on the morning of Aug. 6, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report and found “a metal pipe, capped on both ends, with evidence of drilling” — markers that fit the description of a homemade pipe bomb.
