An explosion happened on Tuesday in Aralia village, Baluakandi union, Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj while a bomb squad was trying to deactivate a mortar shell. The blast damaged several nearby houses. Gazaria Police Station’s Investigation Officer, Shahidul Islam, said the object was a cannon mortar shell.
The shell was found on Monday morning when workers were digging soil to build a small road on the land of a man named Hanif Miah in Aralia village. Local people said the object came out from the ground while digging. At first, they didn’t realize it was a bomb. Some thought it might be a golden statue or an old boundary marker. This led to many rumours, and people from nearby areas gathered to see it.
