Philippines: Tip-off leads to seizure of NPA firearms, IED in Agusan Norte


A tip-off from a resident helped the Army’s 29th Infantry Battalion (29IB) recover four high-powered firearms and an improvised explosive device (IED) belonging to the communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Bangonay, Jabonga, Agusan del Norte.

Col. Jason Saldua, 29IB commander, said the troops were deployed for a combat operation in the area on July 20 after receiving a report from a civilian on the periodic presence of the NPA insurgents conducting extortion activities.

“Our troops, upon reaching Sitio Inayao, discovered a newly-abandoned encampment of the NPA rebels,” Saldua said in a statement Friday.
