Readily available exploding targets used by shooters for long-range target practice “can be easily misused” to construct improvised explosive devices, the Department of Homeland Security’s Bomb-Making Materials Awareness Program reminded stakeholders in a new bulletin.
The BMAP is an outreach partnership under the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency that helps educate state and local entities on how everyday items can be used to craft explosives and helps businesses teach employees how to spot and report suspicious activity. Last week, in light of new concerns about retaliatory terrorist activity from Iran or its proxies, BMAP issued an alert stressing that communities need to watch out for suspicious purchases that could indicate construction of an IED.
