UN Security Council extends AMISOM mandate


The United Nations Security Council has extended the mandate of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) by three months, giving time for talks to overhaul the mission.

As the situation in Somalia remains perilous with Al-Shabaab posing a potent threat to peace and security, the Security Council has decided to allow the AU troops to continue the war on Al-Shabaab.

The decision gives African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) the green light to carry on its operation until March 31, 2022, according to a statement by the Security Council on Tuesday night after the vote.
