A U.S. Army veteran and amputee explained how state-of-the-art prosthetics changed his life at the Amputee Coalition Conference in Tucson.
Richard Cicero lost an arm and leg when an improvised explosive device went off in Afghanistan back in 2010. He is one of the few people in the country who has been through this prosthetic procedure.
Cicero now has an osseointegrated implant which is a piece of titanium in the bone.
He says that a portion of it sticks out that attaches to the prosthetic like a trailer hitch.
“It’s comfortable,” said Cicero. “I have the capability of doing things that I haven’t been able to do in over eight years.”
