TSA Deploys Experimental, Non-Invasive IED Detection Device at Transit Stations

The Transportation Security Administration is deploying experimental, non-invasive devices to help detect an improvised explosive device (IED) inside America’s transit hubs.

“Along with industry partners, we are committed to identifying, testing and deploying technology that addresses threats to transportation across the spectrum,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a statement.

The gray, rectangular device, known as a “stand-off explosive detection unit,” sits on top of a tripod and is positioned at entrances, departure platforms, and other areas where travelers congregate.
