Development of the AN-19/2 Mine Detecting Set for the Swedish Army marked the company’s entry into the international market. Further orders from various NATO countries followed and strengthened Schiebel’s world market position.
The major breakthrough and world market leadership was achieved in 1991, when Schiebel won the contract for the AN-19/2 Mine Detecting Set, designated AN/PSS-12, as standard equipment for the U.S. Army. As a consequence, the company has built an excellent international reputation for the development and production of quality products for military and counter-mine use.
Starting in 1994, Schiebel has also been engaged in the development of unmanned helicopters and, in early 2000, successfully launched the CAMCOPTER® 5.1 UAV System on the market. This system has undergone a complete technical redesign in the following years and was presented to the public in 2005 as the CAMCOPTER® S-100. With its integrated autonomous flight control and unique performance data, this unique VTOL platform won the first major contract for Schiebel from the United Arab Emirates. The CAMCOPTER® S-100 thus gained a worldwide leading position in the rapidly expanding UAS market.
Since 2010 Schiebel further expanded its technical services with the launch of its Carbon Composites Division, offering high quality custom-made composite services.

The AN-19/2 Mine Detecting Set, suitable for fast, accurate demining in all climates and terrains, is one of the most widely used mine detectors in the world for both humanitarian and military purposes. It has served as the standard detector for numerous armies, including most NATO countries.
Due to its modular design it provides maximum flexibility to the user as well as ease of maintenance, some of the reasons that explain the product’s ongoing popularity over decades.
The ATMID™ All Terrain Mine Detector is highly effective in detecting minimum-metal-content mines in all terrains – even in areas with severe laterite conditions with a high content of iron or aluminum oxides.
For mine detection in normal soil conditions, the ATMID™ retains the proven and trusted design of the AN-19/2. When used in pulse mode, it operates like the latest standard AN-19/2.
The ATMID™ is available as a stand-alone product or as a cost-effective upgrade of the earlier versions of the AN-19/2.
Based on the highly developed technology of Schiebel’s handheld mine detection systems, VAMIDS™ is a vehicle-based search and mark system. The sophisticated computerized control and display combined with an efficient marking system allows operators to quickly detect and mark landmines for subsequent removal.
VAMIDS™ is ideally suited to flat open terrain, including desert, steppe, grassland and bushland. The system is capable of searching and marking lanes from 1 to 4 meters in width.
Based on the proven technology of the AN-19/2, the MIMID™ is a highly convenient, one-piece mine detector that is capable of detecting minimal-metal-content mines. It is lightweight, collapsible and, when folded, can even be carried on a soldier’s web belt or in a trouser side pocket, giving operators immediate access to the MIMID™ when required.
The unique features of the MIMID™ make it particularly suitable for light forces and special military operations where soldiers must carry heavy equipment in remote areas with little logistical support.
The COMID™ Compact Mine Detector represents the latest development in Schiebel’s mine detection technology.
Minimum-metal content mines in nearly all types of soils and terrain conditions can be detected with ease, especially viable in areas with severe laterite conditions (a high content of iron or aluminum oxides).
