The Army bomb squad was called to a location in North Dublin on Monday night after a “viable device” was discovered.
To ensure public safety, a section of the N32 in Darndale was closed while the device was inspected at around 9.35pm last night.
The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was made safe and removed to a secure military installation for further examination.
Gardaí are now carrying out an investigation into the incident.
