MINUSMA condemns deadly attack on civilians in Mali

The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) strongly condemned Thursday an improvised explosive device attack on civilians in the village of Gondogourou in the Mopti region on 26 February.

The body of a dead person 48 hours ago exploded, killing at least 10 people and wounding two others, all men from the Dogon community, who had come to dispose of the body for burial, said MINUSMA in a statement.

On the same day, the bodies of the victims of the attack and the remains of the body were buried by the Malian Armed Forces, deployed on site after the incident.

“Trapping a dead body for the purpose of causing additional victims is a serious crime, and the perpetrators of such an ignominy must be judged and condemned,” said the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Chief of Staff of MINUSMA, Mahamat Saleh Annadif.
