Metrohm AG

Metrohm AG, founded in 1943 by the engineer Dr. Bertold Suhner, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of precision instruments for chemical analysis.

At our headquarters in Herisau in the east of Switzerland more than 450 employees develop and produce systems for all versions of ion analysis. Apart from titration, these are ion chromatography, pH and conductivity measurement, voltammetry and stability measurement. Besides this, we offer a complete portfolio for near-infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy as well as software, dosing systems, and solutions for laboratory automation. Metrohm is represented in 80 countries by our own subsidiaries or exclusive distributors, respectively; in total, more than 2000 employees work for us worldwide. To provide them with training in service and support and also in the use and sales of our instruments, we lately founded the Metrohm Academy, which is also used for congresses and customer events.

The Metrohm product portfolio for handheld Raman spectroscopy is developed and manufactured in the US by Metrohm Raman (formerly known as Snowy Range Instruments), a world leader in Raman spectroscopy based in Laramie, WY. Metrohm Raman joined the global Metrohm Group in 2015 establishing Metrohm straightaway as a powerhouse in the fast growing market for advanced, handheld material identification technology.

Metrohm is a problem solver in the true sense of the word – both in the laboratory and in the industrial process. That means that we offer each customer a customized solution, including not simply the instrument but also the required application know-how. To this end our chemists are continuously developing new applications and methods, publishing them in relevant trade journals thereby opening up new solutions to our customers. Current examples include research in the fields of electrically powered vehicles and alternative drive systems as well as the expanding field of environmental analysis, where our instruments and applications make it possible to detect substances such as toxic heavy metals right down to trace and ultra-trace levels.

In a highly competitive, price-sensitive market, we differentiate ourselves by the quality and technical innovation of our products. More than 30% of our employees at the company headquarters in Herisau work in research and development, and here especially in software development, electronics and design.

Metrohm has been owned 100% by the non-profit Metrohm Foundation since 1982. The Metrohm Foundation, which does not exert any influence on the company’s business operations, sponsors gifted pupils in the natural sciences, supports charitable and philanthropic purposes in the east of Switzerland and, above all, ensures the independence of the company.
